Deletion request

MediaWiki:Discussiontools-preference-description/sr-ec & MediaWiki:Flow-talk-page-beta-feature-description/sr-ec

Please delete these two messages. I’m not able to properly translate them

Apparently this to MediaWiki:Discussiontools-preference-description/sr-el (fallback) Milićević (talk) 22:15, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
I can delete it, but why not just translate it? Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 00:28, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
It's not worth of effort and message isn't that important. Milićević (talk) 18:02, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
OK, I deleted it, although I'd say that translating the whole Discussiont Tools extension is among the most important tasks for good functioning of Wikipedia in any language. But it's up to you. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 21:35, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
My hope is that message will become simpler with time or someone else will do it :)

MediaWiki:Uploadnotallowed

Hello, is it possible to create such a page? Or is there such a page. I couldn't find it. Regards, Turkmen (talk) 09:19, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

@Turkmen: Hi, I am not sure what you want to do. Can you explain a bit more? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 12:00, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
@Jon Harald Søby, for example, there is such a page. A note of permission is placed here purely for move. But I didn't come across the same regarding file upload. There is a general page about fileupload where it is written whether it is allowed or not. And this page is versatile, meaning it's not just about the file. I would like to make some notes locally if there was a page like this one just about the file. Turkmen (talk) 12:10, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Translate a bot on TranslateWiki

Hello. I would like to translate some phrases from my bot that I use for data entry on Wikidata, so that I can enter records in multiple languages rather than just a couple of languages that I know. These are strings such as {{year}} television series directed by {{director}}, {{year}} animated mini-series directed by {{director}}, webseries, animated film, television film, etc. Is it possible to open a project here on TranslateWiki for this purpose? --Wiccio (talk) 09:53, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

See Translating:New project. Your bot needs to be in a version control system like git, have an open source license and a supported file format. Nike (talk) 09:07, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Deletion request

If someone could please delete the translation at MediaWiki:Wikimedia-help-translate-prompt/se, I would appreciate it. The translation is not in Northern Sámi (se). Thanks! -Kimberli Mäkäräinen (WMNO) (talk) 08:11, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Also there may be more, since confusing Swedish (*.se) and Northern Saami (se) is quite common, but this is the only one I've run across so far. - Kimberli Mäkäräinen (WMNO) (talk) 08:38, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

தமிழ் Translation - Permission for offline translation

Please grant me permission for offline translation for tamil Language. Allow me to upload the translated PO files. தமிழ்நேரம் (talk) 23:26, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

@தமிழ்நேரம்: Hi, please see the procedure for getting offline translator rights at Translating:Offline. Thanks. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 07:29, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
I don't see a way to get the offline translator rights. தமிழ்நேரம் (talk) 04:55, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Removing a message from export

Last week, I added !!FUZZY!! to a bunch of messages (e.g. [1]). I thought that it would cause them to be removed from the .json files exported to MediaWiki, as documented at Quick guide to editing translatewiki.net. However, they are still there: [2]. What do? Matma Rex (talk) 03:38, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

@Matma Rex: I think the only way to remove a message like you want is to actually delete it. My understanding is that adding !!FUZZY!! will just not export that message until the fuzzy is removed again. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 09:59, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
@Jon Harald Søby Hmm, I didn't want to do that, since I feel like having the previous translations available would be helpful for translators fixing this problem. Would it work then if I removed them manually from the .json files in Git? Or can you suggest some other way to do this? (For context, I'm trying to fix T361695, where certain identical translations are causing issues with some special pages.) Matma Rex (talk) 18:16, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Translated MantisBT 'qqq' strings

Hello,

I just noticed that our 'qqq' documentation strings are all in some Eastern-European looking language, instead of English.

According to Git history, this occurred in 2 TW commits, in September 2023:

This was apparently done by user @Zexmax, who at the same time also submitted serbian_latin translations for MantisBT and bundled plugins. I am not sure whether the changes to 'qqq' were intentional or by mistake.

Can you please advise, on how to best fix this ? Can I simply revert the changes in Git ? Is there some special actions on your end ?

Thanks in advance -- Damien 14:52, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

@Dregad: Thanks for the heads-up! I have deleted and/or reverted all the qqq changes from Zexmax, so the automatic updates should take care of the rest. I.e. no need to manually revert the changes in Git. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 13:31, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Error in source

I think I found an error in Adiutor in Mediawiki, there:

"You can utilize the parameters within this options, which include:"

It is at least grammatically wrong, though I don't know if it's supposed to be "this option" or "these options". Alien333 (talk) 12:44, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks. I've sent a fix here. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 19:09, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Мероприятие по переводу

Здравствуйте. Предлагаю провести мероприятие по переводу. Надеюсь провести онлайн, так как лететь из Калининграда в Хабаровск не имеет смысла. Dirruw'o (talk) 08:06, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Inconsistence in source

MediaWiki:Adiutor-request-page-move-description/en appears to be about page moves but the first sentence talks of protection:

[...] Adiutor's request page protection module. [...] stored in the MediaWiki:AdiutorRequestPageMove.json page [...]

Might be due to copypasting, as that message or slight variations of it appear multiple times. Alien333 (talk) 12:43, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Custom PLURAL request for Levantine Arabic (code 'apc')

a. 0: plural

b. 1: its own rule

c. 2: its own rule

d. 3–10: plural

e. 11–102: singular

f. 103–110: plural

g. 111–202: singular

h. 203–210: plural

i. 211–302: singular

v. 903–910: plural

w. 911–1,002: singular

And it keeps on going in the same pattern. FunLater (talk) 18:46, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi!
Are 11–102 and 111–202 the same as "b. 1: its own rule"?
And there is no separate rule for 11–26, like in Standard Arabic? Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:36, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi :)
1 has its own rule, and doesn't share it with any number. It's technically also singular, but it needs its own rule since
  • For the ones I called singular: (١١ ويكي) "11 wiki" (English: 11 wikis)
  • For one: (ويكي واحد) "wiki waḥad" (English: one wiki)
We don't need a separate rule for 11–26.
There are translations into multiple Arabic varieties, so it may be worth checking if any have custom translation rules. I would check it myself, but I'm not sure how to. FunLater (talk) 10:10, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Oh, so in 11–102, the number is before the word, and in 1, the number is after the word and looks nicer when written as a word and not as digits, correct? Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:52, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes. It actually looks weird when not written (similar to writing "no 1", instead of "no one").
Additionally, it's different depending on if the word is feminine or masculine:
one thing شي واحد
one tomato بندورة واحدة
FunLater (talk) 11:00, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
OK, I get it. I think that it's doable. Can you please create a Phabricator task for it?
Also, while we are at it, can you please complete the translation of the most used messages and update all the core messages that need updating? It will probably bring this language to the threshold that allows it to be used as a user interface language here and on the Incubator, and resolve task T290657. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 11:44, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
The translation would be wrong without the plurals. Is there a reason not to wait till the custom PLURAL template is complete?
And, just to be sure, what should the task be? "Custom PLURAL request for Levantine Arabic (code 'apc')"? FunLater (talk) 12:01, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Oh, I see. There are some necessary translations there that don't require PLURAL, so if you do them, it will bring you closer to the threshold. And if you can just translate general untranslated things from core MediaWiki, it will help you cross the threshold, too. It generally makes more sense to fix the plurals when the language is already supported as a user interface language.
And yes, the task can have the same title as this discussion here, and the same text as what you wrote in the beginning. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 12:07, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

I'll try to translate as much as I can later. :) FunLater (talk) 12:20, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
