Purge

How can i purge Special:ActiveLanguages/tr to see the last results? RuzDD (talk) 11:15, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Why nobody answered my question? RuzDD (talk) 12:56, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
You cannot. It's updated automatically periodically. Nike (talk) 14:09, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
@Nike Can this feature be added as it exists on some other MediaWiki wikis? RuzDD (talk) 19:59, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
No. It's too slow. What would be the use case to need it updated more frequently? Nike (talk) 20:41, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
For example, sometimes I want to see the latest results, for example after making a lot of translations. RuzDD (talk) 14:24, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Translating Wikicontents to Ekpeye

Hello reviewers,

I would like to start translating into Ekpeye for Wiki projects. The Iso code is “ekp”. Umasoyee (talk) 13:55, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the request. I'll enable it soon. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:59, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Rename string titles

Project Translating:Lingua Libre SignIt - sign languages web extension.

Hello all, I would like to rename a part of my JSON keys on github, ex:

  • Now : "si-overlay-coreContent-left-contribute-label"
  • After: "si-modal-panelvideo-contribute-label"

The synchronisation is maintained by Github bot « Translatewiki ».
Is it ok to rename string titles/keys ?
Will it break synchronisation between i18n of SignIt on Github with its i18n on Translatewiki Translating:Lingua_Libre_SignIt ? Yug (talk) 18:44, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Ok, I found FAQ#Is_it_possible_to_rename_message_keys?.
If I understand well, I have to do the renames on my github, only on the en.json file. Then it will be propagated to other language by the translatewiki team or bot. User:Siebrand (?), please let me know if i'm correct. Yug (talk) 19:04, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
@Yug: That's right. Only change it in the en.json and qqq.json files, and everything else will be fixed by the bot. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 06:53, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
@Jon Harald Søby, @Siebrand, it's done on Github : commit 5d0b8b2.
There are about 15 strings to renames, strings patterns which I updated are as follow :
  • si-overlay-coreContent-left-novideo → si-panel-videos-empty
  • si-overlay-coreContent-left → si-panel-videos
  • si-overlay-coreContent-right-error → si-panel-definitions-empty
  • si-overlay-coreContent-right → si-panel-definitions
  • si-popup-history-noHistory → si-popup-history-empty
  • si-videosGallery-video → si-panel-videos-gallery-attribution

Punjabi translation for word "main" is wrong.

everyday Panjabi we say ਮੁੱਢਲਾ that means main, first, start etc. the translation shown ਮੁੱਖ is more of Hindi language, many Hindi migrants use Hindi instead of Panjabi in Panjab (India), so, it doesn't mean it is Panjabi. correction needed at many pages example MediaWiki:Mainpage/pa ਸੋਧਣਾ ਜਾਰੀ - translatewiki.net, ਤਰਜਮਾ ਕਰੋ - translatewiki.net

another word 'user' in Panjabi is called 'ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰ' but Hindi word has been used at many places ਉਪਭੋਗਤਾ. We don't say that, only Hindi speakers in Panjab (India) say that.

People are using Google translate and Google is NOT right often. Google is using more Hindi words as Google doesn't have much data in Panjabi Language.

Hopefully someone will correct it as I don't have rights to correct it. Cabal (talk) 18:37, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

As the documentation on the "Main page" message says, it must be changed very carefully, and only if there is wide consensus for it. Have you discussed this with other editors who speak Punjabi? Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 19:55, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

Raw text "bw-sidebar-translate" appearing in sidebar when Interface language is set to English

Presumably due to some message not being configured properly. Could this be fixed? Thanks. Pppery (talk) 05:29, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Should be fixed now. Nike (talk) 06:18, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Early access: Watch Message Groups on Translatewiki.net

Hi everyone,

You can now watch message groups/projects on Translatewiki.net. Initially, this feature will notify you of added or deleted messages in these groups.

Watching a message group on Special:Translate
Watching a message group on Special:Translate
Echo notification received when a message is added or removed from a watched message group
Echo notification received when a message is added or removed from a watched message group

This feature is currently available only on translatewiki.net. Before we deploy it more widely, we would like to gather feedback from the community and work on improving the feature based on your input. You can leave your feedback here or on the Phabricator task: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T348501

Thanks, Abijeet Patro (talk) 15:28, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Initial thought, without having tried it out yet: Why notify on deleted messages? There's nothing I as a translator am required or able to do about a message being deleted. Changed messages, however, would be another story (not sure if that's covered yet or not). Jon Harald Søby (talk) 15:33, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
Regarding deleted messages, your points are valid, but it made sense to have it in place and gather feedback.
Notification for changed messages is not implemented.

Created: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T363902 for notification regarding changed messages Abijeet Patro (talk) 09:52, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Notifications will no longer be sent for deleted messages.
One side-effect of this is that older messages that informed watchers about added or removed messages will no longer be visible either. Since this feature is still experimental, it made sense to drop this old message, that will no longer be used in the future, completely rather than maintain backward compatibility for it.
Regards, Abijeet Patro (talk) 11:24, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, it's awesome!
Can I see a list of all the groups that I'm watching? Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 16:35, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
Currently you can't, but something we've considered implementing in the future. This page would also allow translators to unsubscribe from the listed groups.

How about adding a "watch star" to each group in Special:LanguageStats? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:00, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Not a bad idea, can you please add that as a comment to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T363663? Regards, Abijeet Patro (talk) 02:32, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

I haven't been here in the weekend, so my notifications look like this today. Would it be possible to consolidate repeating notifications for the same message group into one notification? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:04, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
There is some bundling logic in place to group notifications received in the last 4 hours, but I think that needs to be improved more. Regards, Abijeet Patro (talk) 15:37, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

I got an update for ‘MediaWiki (most important messages)’ group but the link that this lead to just leads to the list of all messages (both in email and on web). I think that in such a case it would be much better to have a link that shows the recent additions/changes first, since otherwise it is very hard to find what I need to either translate or review. stjn[ru] 13:10, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Linking to recent additions / changes was something that I considered. The problem is that the links will become invalid after a few hours, in the sense other messages will have been imported that would appear first but maybe that's fine? Hoping to get more feedback on what people think would be more useful. I'll create a task to think about this some more.
It would be nice to display newly / changed imported messages for a specific group under Special:Translate.
Regards, Abijeet Patro (talk) 02:37, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
I think it’s fine. It is much better to display ‘recently changed’ messages in a link instead of just all the messages, since the latter is pretty much useless for any big group of messages. stjn[ru] 10:21, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Localisation of Interslavic

Hello! I am new here, so I hope I'm doing everything as it should be done. I'd like to start translating into Interslavic — Medžuslovjansky [isv], which is currently disabled. Interslavic is written in Latin and Cyrillic alphabet (both LTR, obviously). I have already made a portal. I would also like to request the right to translate, if possible.

Also, once this is done, would it be possible to import those messages that have already been translated from another wiki (Miraheze), or should everything be done manually?

Thanks, IJzeren Jan (talk) 16:04, 26 May 2024 (UTC)

As far as I can see, the language code isv is still disabled. What should I do to have it enabled? For the record, based on these guidelines:
  • ISO 639-3: isv
  • Name of the language: Interslavic – Medžuslovjansky / меджусловјанскы
  • Text direction: LTR
  • Two scripts: Latin and Cyrillic. I'll handle both of them.
  • No need to fall back to another language.
If this isn't the right place to ask these questions, can someone please tell me where I should go? Thanks, IJzeren Jan (talk) 21:18, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
@IJzeren Jan: I have filed this task and submitted this patch to add it. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 09:34, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
