זאת שיטה מיושנת ולא נוחה, אבל כותבים פה לעיתים די רחוקות, ואני עסוק בעוד המון דברים, אז עיצוב מערכת טובה יותר הוא לא העדיפות הכי גבוהה בשבילי. אם יש למישהו רעיון איך לארגן את זה טוב יותר, אשמח לשמוע.

I wonder why you edited many messages to perform cosmetical changes without visible changes; e.g. turning autorisé{{GENDER:||e}} into
That looks more time-consuming for editing and reviewing than useful. Is there a reason I missed?

- French is used as the de facto source language by translators into some other languages, especially in Francophone African countries, such as Malagasy, Luba-Kasai, Baoule, Douala, and some others. I noticed that they have a lot of trouble translating messages that used gender and plural syntax like autorisé{{GENDER:||e}}, jour{{PLURAL:$1||s}}, etc. Many (but not all) French messages used this style, which mostly gives correct output, but is hard to read because it breaks words into parts, so they couldn't understand what it means and made incorrect translations. I discussed it with some of them, and they understand the syntax better now, but to reduce future mistakes of this kind, it should be fixed consistently.
- This happens consistently in these languages, and not in others, and this is the obvious reason. If it just happened to one translator or in one language, I probably wouldn't do it, but it's obvious that this is a phenomenon that causes many real and hard-to-find mistakes, and it will keep causing them if it's not addressed.
- (For what it's worth, I also found a few real mistakes in the messages that were changed, and either fixed them myself when I was sure what's the right French translation or marked them for updating. I see that some of them were already fixed.) Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 18:25, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
