Request for username change (64andtim)

I was renamed from 64andtim to Codename Noreste on Wikimedia, and I would like to request changing my username to match the same username (Codename Noreste). Thanks. 64andtim (talk) 20:05, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Problematic user

The quality of the User:Dr1t jg's translations for system messages is very poor. This is becoming a major issue for Korean Wikipedia. He seems to use machine translation without making any refinements.

Please consider deleting all the translations he has made and reverting all his contributions. Ykhwong (talk) 14:15, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the request, @Ykhwong. I revoked the user's translation permission and explained it on their talk page.
Are this user's translations completely wrong in terms of vocabulary, grammar, etc.? Do they have a lot of wrong text that is typical to machine translation? Or are they written in a language that is correct, but stylistically inconsistent with other user interface translations? Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:40, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Korean constructs sentences using honorific and casual speech, and system messages used in computer software typically employ honorifics. In Korean culture, casual speech is only used with friends or younger individuals. The user has changed all sentences in Korean from honorific to casual speech. This is a very awkward expression and does not conform to the consensus of the wiki community, especially the Korean Wikipedia community.
Secondly, please review the link Special:diff/12264158. He translated the expression "Cheers!" into Korean as "건배!" which is completely incorrect. This term is only used when drinking alcohol, and the same applies in both Chinese and Japanese. The use of this term clearly indicates that the user's mother language is not Korean. (His babel user information insists the ko-N though) It should be translated as "기원을 빕니다!", "응원합니다!", or similar expressions. Ykhwong (talk) 14:54, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
OK. Technically, I can delete them quickly, but I'm wondering whether it's better to delete or to fix.
The easy way to go over all of them and fix what's necessary is to use the "Proofread" link in the sidebar (교정됨). But if you are sure that it's too much content to review and that it's easier and more beneficial to delete it, I can do that. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:01, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm concerned about the large number of contributions from the user. Given the relatively small size of the Korean user base here, it will take a long time to proofread. I want to respect the contributions of other users as much as possible. However, the need to investigate whether each contribution from the user includes sentence translations, and then making necessary adjustments, presents itself as a significant task. Ykhwong (talk) 15:15, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
OK. Take a day to think about this and discuss it with other Korean participants. If you decide that they should be deleted, let us know here on this page before Sunday. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 19:12, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
I kindly request that you delete/revert the contributions of the User:Dr1t jg as I mentioned above. I have shared the situation within the Korean Wikipedia community. Everyone who participated in the help desk discussion identified problems with the messages. I also found the Special:diff/12275584 that even damaged the system message of the IpInfo extension, resulting in neither the original nor translated content being displayed. Ykhwong (talk) 00:39, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
OK. I deleted as many as I conveniently could with the help of the Nuke mass-deletion tool, but a few dozens still remain. I recommend that someone goes over them. Here's a hopefully convenient list: https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=Dr1t+jg&namespace=all&tagfilter=&topOnly=1&start=&end=&offset=&limit=500 Amir E. Thank you! Ykhwong (talk) 00:07, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Request for Magic words review

Hi,

Would it be possible for me to review the magic words for MediaWiki page names and links, in interlingue ?

Renan (talk) 13:45, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

Of course. Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 02:10, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Request to translate MediaWiki messages

I would like to ask you to correct MediaWiki messages:

  • Wikibase-mylanguagefallbackchain-verbatim-item – in most of the languages there is " - " (hyphen) instead of " – " (dash).
  • Mobile-frontend-languages-header-page – as above.

Thank you in advance. maro21 (talk) 21:00, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

@maro21: I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you want to change dash to hyphen in the English message, or change hyphen to dash in all other languages? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 12:16, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
The hyphen is obviously incorrect between two spaces. maro21 (talk) 23:36, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
