Can someone please provide a link to the tl version of this website?
Hoi, what website ? Thanks,
GerardM
Wikireader.
As a result of your question I blogged about the subject. Getting the results of our work into production is very important.
There are other projects whose "finished products" I can't find the Tagalog version of at the moment. So far the respondents (developers) are from iHRIS and FUDforum only. Don't know about the rest. I really would like to see the tl versions of other projects, at least through links presented to us by their developers. Thanks.
WikiReader has Wiki name ("English...
") which as far as I can understand refers to "English... [Books:wiki name ("Books
")/Quote:wiki name ("Quotes
")/Dict:wiki name ("Dictionary
")". In many languages, including Arabic, this doesn't work and the best way is to translate "English Books", "English Quotes", ""English Dictionary" all in different massages.
It could be translated as '[undefined] "in the <your language> language". Just beware that there isn't a lot of space in the WikiReader interface...
What does "Wikipedia English" mean here. Is it the English language Wikipedia?
I suspect that this message is like WikiReader:Wiki name/en, where the documentation says you have to change "English" to the name of the language you're translating into. If that is the case, then about half of the existing translations are wrong. (If not, the other half is wrong.)
This thread should be moved to Translating_talk:WikiReader but I have no idea how to move threads.
I tried the link "Move" next to the subject header. It worked. :)
We would like it to be Wikipedia <Language name>. Where the language name is written in native spelling / characters. Just like the language bar on the left side of wikipedia.
Since you're responsible for the localization, I was wondering if you're able to help me. Some German messages of WikiReader use personal speech, and I wanted to know if WikiReader supports "de-formal" or if there's solely "de"? This would be a good information for translation work.
I think they won't be supporting de-formal, but to be sure I'll move this thread the Translating_talk:WikiReader so an OpenMoko developer can respond.
I'm not exactly sure what the question is. We are only aware of one type of German wikipedia. Namely de.wikipedia.org. So could you clarify what this de-formal stuff is?
In German, there are two different ways of calling a person. There's a formal one, which you commonly do with persons who you don't know that much or not at all. The other is more relaxed, which you do with young persons, with adults that you know or family members. In the MediaWiki localization, the usual "de" uses the non-formal form, and the specific language "de-formal" uses the formal form. There's nothing gramatically comparable like this in English, but of course, the English that you talk with your friends is a different one than the one that you speak with your customers.
Now, it's the question how you want that with WikiReader. We can use the polite or unpolite form only in our translation or separate it into two "languages" as we do it with MediaWiki. As I read some of your messages, I think it would be better to only use the formal German for the translation, but of course, that's just me.
I see. Yes we should use formal then. Thanks for clarifying!
Ok, thanks. I have changed the only message using the other form.
I have had a look at the web home page for Wikireader and also the messages to be translated. From that it appears that Wikireader is using only the English version of Wikipedia. Is this correct? If so, then are there plans to use other language versions of Wikipedia on Wikireader? If not, then I can't see that there is much point in translating these messages. Or am I missing something?
As far as I know this is not true, but I am not a product specialist. You can tweet them at @wikireader for a quick answer, I guess.
The following are extracts of e-mails between myself and sean@openmoko.com, who produce Wikireader:
Lloffiwr: I am a translator at translatewiki.net, where wikireader messages are being translated. I am not sure in how many languages wikireader is available. I have found a website selling a Japanese version. Could you let me know in which languages the Wikireader is currently available and what your plans are for the future. I do not want to spend a lot of time on translating this if it is not likely to be available for a long time to come.
Wikireader: Thanks a lot for writing us and a big thanks for helping with translations. We can build just about any language at this point and formal support for latin languages will be made public this month.
Lloffiwr: If you look on the Wikireader project page at translatewiki.net
- http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:WikiReader - you will see that there is a link to the home page of the English language Wikireader. I would quite like to add a link to information on what languages the Wikireader is available in, or is planned to be available in, to the project page - for example the information on the latin languages, when that is published. Is a link to the 'News' page on your website - http://news.thewikireader.com/ - the best thing?
Wikireader: Yes we'll do something like this for sure. We hope to formally launch multi-lingual support later this month. There's still a lot of details (sales, marketing, engineering....) that aren't finished yet.
Lloffiwr: I am also not sure that I understand how the Wikireader works as far as many languages are concerned. Do you buy the Wikireader for one specific language only? Or can you choose to read Wikipedia in more than one language at no additional cost, regardless of which language version you bought?
Wikireader: The WikiReader works by reading a filesystem off of an SD card. Therefore the only thing that is needed is enough space and you can have as many different wikis as you like.
If you're technical, feel free to browse our code at http://github.com/wikireader. We're super close to full support.
What does this message stand for?
I have asked the question to an OpenMoco developer. Hope to get an answer soon.
