میں نظام کے پیغامات (System Messages) کا ترجمہ کرنا چاہتا ہوں۔ براہ مہربانی راہنمائی فرمائیے۔ جزاک اللہ۔

آپ اس وقت اردو ویکیپیڈیا جو جو اصطلاحات رائج ہیں ان کے مطابق ترجمہ کرنے کیکوشش کر سکتے ہیں۔ سب سے پہلے تو آپ بہتر ہے کہ ٹرانسلیٹ ویکی کا بھی اردو ورژن استعمال کریں۔ اس کے لیے صرف سب سے اوپر موجود پٹی میں دیکھیں ایک طرف آپ کے صارف نام کے ساتد انگریزی حرف اے () لکھا ہوا ہو گا اس پر کلک کر کے اردو منتخب کریں۔ اب آپ دائیں جانب سب سے اوپر موجود ترجماتی اوزار پر کلک کریں۔ اب اّ کو ایک نیا صفحہ مل جائے گا جس میں ایک پورا خانہ شماریات بنا ہوگا، جس میں مختلف منصوبوں، توسیعات، اور آلات (سافٹ آلات) کے نام آ رہے ہوں گے۔ آپ جس بھی ربط پر کلک کریں گے، اس کے غیر ترجمہ شدہ اور قابل تجدید تراجم ظاہر ہو جائیں گے۔ آپ کا جس کا درست ترجمہ کر سکتے ہیں، وہ کریں باقی کو پھلانگ (سکپ) کرتے جائیں، یاد رہے، آپ نے صرف حروف کا ترجمہ کرنا ہے، علامات جیسے $ کی علامت یا قوسین کو ختم نہیں کرنا، ہاں ان کا اردو ترجمہ کرتے وقت آپ کو بعض جگہ ان کی ترتیب اردو محاورہ کے مطابق تبدیل کرنا پڑے گی۔ جیسے $1 نے $2 صفحات کو $3 کی طرف منتقل کیا۔ مزید آپ شعیب بھائی اور میرے ترجمہ کردہ صفحات کو دیکھ لیں، شروع میں مجھے بھی کچھ علم نہیں تھا۔ میں ساتھ میں خود ویکی ٹرانسلیٹ کا اردو ترجمہ مکمل کر رہا ہوں، جب یہ پورا ہو جائے گا، اس میں ہی ویکی ٹرانسلیٹ کا تعارف، اور طریقہ کار بھی ترجمہ ہو جائے گا۔ جس سے مزید صارفین کو کام کرنے میں آسانی ہوگی، اور خود میں بھی بہتر واقفیت حاصل کر سکوں گا۔ یاد رہے، یہاں کیا جانے والا ترجمہ چند دن بعد ہی اردو ویکی اور دیگر اردو ویکی منصوبوں میں ظاہر ہوتا ہے۔

Someone proposed that Urdu should fallback to farsi (fa), that is untranslated messages (as well as special page names etc.) would be shown in Farsi rather than English. Was this discussed before? Any opinions?

This is very unlikely. Farsi has just in common of being written with the Arabic script, but Urdu is in fact a language extremely near from Hindi (up to the point that for long it was considered the same language, with just a different script, and transliterators have been developed). In fact even today there exists way to transliterate Hindi to the Arabic script, and Hindi would be a better fallback.

Farsi is too far from Urdu, and most speakers of Urdu are living in India. Those living in Pakistan would not use Farsi anyway, they would use Pashto (another Indo-Iranian language near Farsi, written with the Arabic script).

So I think the correct fallback chain is still:

 ur > hi > ps > fa > ar

You could reverse it for Urdu speakers in Pakistan if they use a more specific "ur-pk" locale:

 ur-pk > ur > ps > fa > ar.

(I could integrate "hi-arab" in the chain but for now we don't have transliterators from Devanagari script to Arabic script, or the reverse; the behavior of vowels is very different in the two scripts and cause difficulties)

You could apply the same for the Kashmiri language (for which a development of transliterors between the Gurmukhi and Arabic scripts is highly desirable, nad may be too with the Latin script, and there's alsready transliterators between Gurmukhi and Devanagaru scripts : the question of the script for that language is still not decided locally)

Thanks for the information but the translators decide, so we'll only rely on their wish.

Hi. Please get some consensus on proper namespace names for Urdu. They can be updated here. Please feel free do discuss in whatever language you like. Please let me know when you have reached consensus in English, so I can make the changes in the software.

All namespaces names which i entered are being used in urdu wikipedia.
