WONTFIX. Wikimedia Legal's responsibility.
I had already reported this on the revision by Siebrand (requested by Geoff) which introduced the mistake, but no action or information followed. It makes no sense to link the unofficial copies of the licenses on en.wiki for all wikis used in English interface, because
- en.wiki is not the only Wikimedia wiki,
- the local text is unreliable,
- it's not localised, while at least CC licenses have many languages.
Links should be changed to http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ and http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html , which most translation still use because it didn't make sense to follow the English source mistake.
I just followed instructions here. Best open a bug, or e-mail legal AT wikimedia DOT org.
I've just got this answer: «The WMF Legal and Community Advocacy ("LCA") team believes that providing the full text of the applicable Creative Commons ("CC") license, whether by linking to an en.wiki version or the original CC version, complies with the requirements of the CC licenses. Thus, LCA believes that the decision to use a particular version lies with the community. LCA will support the community's decision to use either version». Therefore, I suggest to restore the previous default as regards the linked licenses, and then let projects (including en.wiki) link to their local copies if they want.
I changed it per Philippe Beaudette. I'm not going to change anything without a clear change request from WMF legal.
They say that it's up to the community to request the change, but the community never requested it, so it should be reverted. Anyway, this is the usual dead end, so I'll change it in all languages myself, except English 1) because I can't, 2) because I don't care. I hope the wrong default won't mislead too many translators.
If you really think it's wrong, I guess you should persuade the Wikimedia legal team of their wrongdoing, but I understand if you don't.
I've not full understood the problem but, if a default is possibly misleading, please advise via message dcumentation. When translators are aware, they'll likely not be mislead.
Yes, it's what I did. Thanks.
