Please, i want to know how to change the name of the language to algérian (actually in arabic). Thanks.

Edit: In algerian we say "jazayriya"

Oldstoneage10:46, 26 February 2011

When you write it in the Latin script, is that also how Algerian Arabic is written ? If not how do you write it in the Arabic scripts??

'arq' has been supported since 2009-08-27 when Niklas configured it. The autonym currently is "جزائري" and Ethnologue indicates it is written in Arabic script. There are however currently 109 translations for MediaWiki in Latin script. The Wikipedia page shows Latin first. Looks like the standards body has to be informed of the current state of the language, or activism is happening...

For now I have changed the autonym to "Dziri" per Wikipedia.

The name Dziri is used for the language of the town of algiers, for all the country we name it Jazayri. Thanks

Please put portal_talk:Arq on your watchlist.

Apparently there is no consensus on Latin vs. Arabic. See the two threads below. Please be advised that no change requests for the current situation will be accepted before a solid majority of whatever community exists has reached consensus on where this will go.

Language display RTL

Hi, i'm trnslator in Dziri, that can be written in Arabic or Latin script. Since we have more persons that want to paticipate with arabic script, i ask how to change the display from LTR to RTL. The name in arabic script is جازايريّة Thanks, ... and sorry for the disturbance

Oldstoneage (talk)09:05, 8 June 2013

Click icon on the left of your name at the top. Select Language to Arabic.

Thanks but it is not the problem since i need that language stay in Dziri (not arabic), but Dziri must display in RTL using Arabic characters.

Oldstoneage (talk)17:10, 9 June 2013

Still click at that icon, an than look at the bottom of pop-up screen, find "Input setting" and click it.
Than find triple dot [ ... ] on the right and click it. Find Arabic for your input characters.

The problem is not how to get arabic characters but to get all the interface in RTL (with menu in right side), instead of the actual LTR which causes display errors. Thx

Thanks for letting us know. I've updated the autonym for the languag to be in Arabic instead of Latin script, and I've added a placeholder file MessagesArq.php to ensure that the language code is tagged as rtl. This should all be active now. Happy translating!
