No need to remove messages like Randomcategory

because they may return in an extension and you will have to translate them all over again... They will not be in the way when we export messages, as only message we actually need are processed. Just an FYI :) Cheers! Siebrand 22:14, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the information! I feared that these messages might some day return with a different text and that the old text would then accidentally get included in the message files, that's why I deleted them in order to “be on the safe side”. Translating messages

UV, I keep inadvertently translating commands that have already been deleted. But I don't notice that they have been deleted until after translating. Is there a way I can tell which ones are already have been deleted from the translation tool interface? --Rafaelgarcia 15:30, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

The translation tool interface (Special:Translate) should only show current messages, not deleted ones. Can you give me an example of a deleted message that you still found on Special:Translate? --UV 15:46, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Examples are: MediaWiki:Viewdeleted/la‎, MediaWiki:Destfilename/la, MediaWiki:Sourcefilename/la, MediaWiki:Reuploaddesc/la‎. If you click on the little link on top < MediaWiki:Viewdeleted, you find out that they were previously deleted. However, they actually do actively control aspects of the Mediawiki interface. I'm not totally sure why they were deleted.--Rafaelgarcia 16:26, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

That is no problem, those four messages are still part of the software and they needed to be translated. (The "deleted" message on the English message page refers to the local English message here at Betawiki, not to the software itself.)

If you wish to check whether a message still exists in the software, just look at that little link on top that you discovered: On top of the page MediaWiki:Viewdeleted/la‎, there is a little link "< MediaWiki:Viewdeleted". However, on top of the deleted message Getimagelist/la, there is no such link "< MediaWiki:Getimagelist". --UV 18:50, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Deleted pages restored

Hi. I restoredd the page you deleted recently. Reason for this is that the translations (even though incorrect) had already been committed. Deleting them takes them out of sight in Betawiki, but the incorrect translation remains. The proper solution in case you cannot resolve the issue is to add "!!FUZZY!!" in the message, so that it is tagged for updating, or to update the message with the proper translations. Cheers! Thank you for your help and for your note! I now added "!!FUZZY!!" to these messages, but as these messages deal with rather technical aspects, I am not sure about how to translate them correctly (although I can tell for sure that their current "translation" is way from being correct). Since I am somewhat the only regular translator for Latin here, no one else is going to update these messages soon. Will adding "!!FUZZY!!" to these messages automatically remove them from svn? If not, I would be grateful if you could remove them from svn manually. Or should I rather create a patch for bugzilla? Thank you for your help! --UV 22:43, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Adding fuzzy will not remove the message from svn; messages are really never removed; best way is to discuss on la.wp what a correct translation should be, and update it here... We are just talking about a few messages, if it had been dozens, I would have been more inclined to resolve this. Maybe you can use this as am opportunity to get more users involved in the Latin localisation process? Siebrand 23:37, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
