Special Page names in translation

Hello.

I saw the update you made to MediaWiki:Deleting-backlinks-warning/hi. I would like to inform you that the special page names or namespaces should not be translated in the messages. The reasoning behind this is that the interface should be usable on a non-hindi wiki too. For example, the hindi namespaces and special page names will not be available on the english wikipedia, and if the interface messages contain translated links, they will be broken, i.e they wont work.

Best Regards.

Thanks for the heads up. I read here that the parser function {{#special:}} automatically converts the name of the special page to the current language of the wiki. Should I use that instead? Or is Special: sufficient?

Just use the default english special page name, since magic words may not be available in all messages. Besides, the default english special page names work on all wikis, no matter what the content language is. So, for example, a link with Special:Contributions will work everywhere, but विशेष:योगदान will not.

Alright, thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I do know Hindi, but I've never been a contributor to any Hindi MediaWiki wiki so I thought using localised names for special pages was appropriate.
