Hi Михајло Анђелковић. Welcome to translatewiki.net!

You can now start translating.

Bot speed

By the way, feel free to run the bot up to 60 edits/minute, preferably using the API, because that's quicker. The sooner it's done, the better. Cheers! Siebrand 21:34, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

How does the bot work?

Hey. How does the bot work? From your HTTP log I assume something like the following:

  1. get x/sr-ec contents
  2. convert contents to sr-el
  3. get x/sr-el contents
  4. compare converted sr-ec to sr-el content
  5. if different, post converted contents of sr-ec to x/sr-el

Is that correct?

I currently see that you are making two requests to get x/sr-ec and x/sr-el, like this:

"GET /w/api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&titles=MediaWiki:Filelist-show-list/sr-ec&rvprop=content HTTP/1.1" 200 597 "-" "Java/1.6.0_12"
"GET /w/api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&titles=MediaWiki:Filelist-show-list/sr-el&rvprop=content HTTP/1.1" 200 504 "-" "Java/1.6.0_12"
"POST /w/api.php HTTP/1.1" 200 582 "-" "Java/1.6.0_12"
"POST /w/api.php HTTP/1.1" 200 549 "-" "Java/1.6.0_12"

Did you known you could get those 2 pages in one request (as far as I know you can get dozens of pages in one request - uncertain if you can also write multiple pages in one request)? Like this:

http://translatewiki.net/w/api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&titles=MediaWiki:Filelist-show-list/sr-ec|MediaWiki:Filelist-show-list/sr-el&rvprop=content

Then after the 2 GETs, I see 2 POSTs. Just curious. The first one I understand, that's the POSTing of x/sr-el. What's the second for? Siebrand 12:38, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and get yourself true XML instead of xmlfm with "&format=xml" (or another supported format: json, jsonfm, php, phpfm, wddx, wddxfm, xml, xmlfm, yaml, yamlfm, rawfm, txt, txtfm, dbg, dbgfm). Siebrand 12:46, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Now I've seen this. Let me have look over. Mihajlo talk 13:58, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

You say you get the edit token for every edit? Can't you re-use the edit token, until it fails, and then get a new one? Siebrand 11:47, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I say? The man about making bots for MW says this. Now, since I do not intend to watch in beans or a crystal ball to see how the software works, I naturally did not poke aroundt it. Why should I in the first place? Mihajlo talk 12:13, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proper name for sr-el

Hi again. Now that we're improving sr-el, I think we should also take the opportunity to fix the name for sr-el that is used. Currently that is 'latinica' with I assume only means 'Latin' or 'Latin script'. I propose we give sr-ec and sr-el the following names:

  • sr: Српски / Srpski (unchanged)
  • sr-ec: Српски (was: ћирилица)
  • sr-el: Srpski (was: latinica)

Any thoughts? Siebrand 11:43, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
P.s. Just answer here; I have your page on my watchlist, and it will keep the discussion together.

I can agree with this. You might still like to rise this question in our community. Mihajlo talk 12:16, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I would need to know the purpose of this names first. If they are meant for tabs, where an user chooses the variant of the language s/he wants to read the Project in, then it should remain as it is. If it is name of a variant of the language, such as it appears in the IW, then this change is fully reasonable. Although, I see no point in having sr-ec and sr-el IWs. Mihajlo talk 12:18, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

It is the name of the user language in the dropdown on Special:Preferences. It can also be used in interwiki links, but sr-el/sr-ec are never interwiki links. Siebrand 12:28, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Both options seem not to be ideal. Just my thoughts:

  • Writing only "Serbian" in Cyrillic and Latin could cause confusion, for some people could need time to realize what is the difference. :)
  • Writing only "Cyrillic" and "Latin", of course, is missing the main information what is the language called.

What would you say for this:

  • sr -- Српски / Srpski
  • sr-ec -- Српски (ћирилица)
  • sr-el -- Srpski (latinica)

Finally, the following has more sense than the current naming:

  • sr-ec -- Српски
  • sr-el -- Srpski

Mihajlo talk 12:44, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

	'sr' => 'Српски / Srpski',	# Serbian
'sr-ec' => 'Српски (ћирилица)',	# Serbian cyrillic ekavian
'sr-el' => 'Srpski (latinica)',	# Serbian latin ekavian

Feel free. :) I juts hope it won't affect these two:

Because they are but ok as they are right now. Mihajlo talk 12:51, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I do not think it will. Siebrand 13:01, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
