MediaWiki:Tog-editwidth
The words "to fill the entire screen" in Tog-editwidth (“Widen the edit box to fill the entire screen
”) are misleading. If this preference is set, the width of the edit textbox is maximized, but that doesn't even make it fill the entire window, much less the entire screen: the height is not changed. Suggest "Maximize the width of the edit box" or, for a minimal change, "Widen the edit box to fill the available space".
I tried to find out what this user preference actually does, and I have not been able to observe an actual change in the edit field appearance the the feature enabled or disabled. If you *have* a way to make it visible, could you please upload two screenshots so I can try and reproduce that? Thanks.
Hmm. I am really, really sure that the edit box used to have a fixed width of 80 characters, and that this preference would change it to a dynamic width depending on the width of the browser window. I always had it turned on so I didn't notice any change. But now this dynamic width seems to be the default and this preference appears to do nothing. I don't know when this was changed, but since it has, it seems the preference should be eliminated.
It could have something to do with the Usability Initiative features we have here. Will check that out, and remove it if it indeed does nothing anymore.
I removed the feature, as I couldn't find it having any effect.
Did you try all skins? At least with Monobook, it did exactly what McDutchie posted above. I've seen it working in some indic scripted wiki not so long ago, certainly this year. --Purodha Blissenbach 18:04, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
